Mortal Kombat Advance is a fighting video game released for the Game Boy Advance in December 2001, developed by Virtucraft and published by Midway Games. It is a part of the larger Mortal Kombat series, specifically modeled after Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. The game aims to capture the essence of the first three Mortal Kombat games and elements from Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
The gameplay of Mortal Kombat Advance involves one-on-one combat where players can choose from multiple characters, each with unique abilities and fatalities. The objective is to exhaust the opponent’s health bar through a series of attacks and combo moves. Players engage in battles against computer-controlled opponents or other players, navigating the game’s mechanics which have been adapted to fit the fewer buttons available on the Game Boy Advance compared to the original arcade cabinets.
During a match, players must win at least two rounds by depleting the opponent’s health bar. After dominating the fight, players are prompted with “Finish Him” or “Finish Her” cues, allowing them to execute a Fatality—a dramatic and graphic finishing move that is a hallmark of the Mortal Kombat series. These finishing moves require specific button combinations to perform and are designed to end the match in a notably brutal fashion.
